Spencer Street Substation

Due to patronage growth on the Melbourne Tram network, the Victorian Government ordered 50 new trams to supplement the existing fleet.

These trams have higher passenger capacity, additional on-board features and increased electrical requirements that will contribute to the modernisation of the network. As a result, substantial upgrades to the power supply infrastructure, covered by the PowerSupply Upgrade Project, were required.

The new Spencer Street Substation for Powercor consists of the following elements:

  • Concrete slab with pits/trench grates

  • Steel Structure

  • Concrete precast or 190mm core filled blockwork walls

  • Klip - lok roofing

  • Epoxy floor coating

  • Fire rated suspended ceiling

  • Service installations and external works
