Ducon promptly alerted our on-call plumber. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Ducon Maintenance Plumbing (DMP) mobilized two plumbers who arrived on-site within 45 minutes. They successfully shut off the water supply just 15 minutes after reaching the station.
Shortly before 7 am, a Ducon staff member received another unusual call-out and informed his superviser immediately. Following up, Ducon contacted MTM’s fault centre, which confirmed the extent of the damage.
Ducon swiftly assembled a team to manage the situation, deploying pumps, vacuums, and squeegees to disperse water and mitigate ongoing ingress. Affected areas were cordoned off and secured, and blowers and dehumidifiers were installed to prevent further damage and potential mould growth.
Later that afternoon, MTM requested the removal and replacement of an 80m² plaster ceiling on the concourse level, requiring three coats of plastering before the first train the following morning.
To meet this deadline, a rapid response was essential. This involved coordinating access through one of the city’s busiest shopping centres, sourcing skilled labour, acquiring necessary equipment such as elevated work platforms (EWPs) and skips, and ensuring availability of materials. Despite the tight timeframe and logistical complexities, all tasks were completed as required thanks to the concerted efforts of everyone involved, allowing the station to re-open just one day later.
This successful outcome was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of many individuals and teams.
