IKEA Springvale

The Brief

As the demand for click-and-collect and home delivery services surged, IKEA Springvale required a significant expansion to accommodate this growing logistical need. The challenge was to triple the capacity of their existing fulfilment area, transforming an underutilised space into a streamlined distribution hub without disrupting ongoing operations. IKEA needed a solution that would ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance with the high standards of both the global brand and local building regulations.

Our Response

Ducon Building Solutions was engaged to deliver this conversion project. Leveraging our expertise in live environment construction, we undertook the task of repurposing a section of the underground car park into a fully operational fulfilment facility. This involved comprehensive planning and execution to maintain the structural integrity and functionality of the site while reconfiguring the space to meet IKEA’s logistical needs.

The project began with detailed site preparation, including the installation of temporary structural supports to facilitate safe and efficient work. Ducon then undertook extensive fit-out and reconfiguration works to transform the space into a high-volume logistics centre, which included:

  • Reconstruction of load-bearing walls and partitions to create defined storage and processing zones.
  • Integration of state-of-the-art fire safety and ventilation systems to ensure compliance with local building codes and IKEA’s global safety standards.

Ducon also managed the installation of new vehicle access points and loading bays, allowing IKEA to accommodate the increased number of delivery vehicles and ensuring that the new facility could handle a significantly higher volume of inbound and outbound goods.

One of the project’s standout features was the implementation of soundproof partitioning and vibration-damping systems, which minimised the impact of the construction work on customers and staff in adjacent areas. The team’s focus on maintaining operational continuity ensured that IKEA’s primary customer services were not disrupted, despite the scale and complexity of the transformation. Additionally, Ducon’s commitment to safety and quality was highlighted through professional project management, adherence to stringent safety protocols, and seamless coordination with IKEA’s internal teams.

This successful expansion project not only reinforces IKEA’s position as a leader in customer service but also demonstrates Ducon’s ability to deliver innovative, solution-based outcomes that align with our clients’ business objectives
