The Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) engaged Ducon Building Solutions for two key projects:
For Cafe Vita et Flores, Ducon developed a plan to create a welcoming outdoor space that offered protection from Melbourne’s unpredictable weather while maintaining visual appeal. The project involved the removal of the existing glass privacy wall, construction of new half walls, and the installation of clear vinyl shutters for weather protection. Ducon coordinated the integration of structural steel with the existing framework to ensure a seamless installation. Collaborative efforts with the architect and engineer helped overcome site-specific challenges, delivering a result that balanced structural integrity and aesthetic goals. Energy-efficient LED lighting was also installed to enhance year-round comfort.
For the Florist retail space, Ducon transformed the area into a more inviting and functional environment. The team managed the full repainting of the shop, installed custom joinery including a sales counter, portable guillotine trolley, and stainless-steel benches, and upgraded the flooring with durable sheet vinyl. A standout element was the design and construction of a custom cool room, built in collaboration with a specialist contractor, showcasing Ducon’s ability to manage specialized builds. All work was completed with strict adherence to safety and operational requirements, ensuring minimal disruption in the live environments.
Both projects successfully enhanced the visitor experience at SMCT’s memorial parks.
The Cafe Vita et Flores alfresco area now offers a refreshed, inviting outdoor space that can be enjoyed in all seasons.
The Florist retail space at Springvale Botanical Cemetery now features a welcoming, functional layout that aligns with the serene atmosphere of the cemetery.
These successful collaborations highlight Ducon’s capability in delivering tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of sensitive environments.
“Thank you for helping us provide a beautiful (and functional) alfresco dining space for our community—just in time for the warmer weather!”
