Following a structural assessment of the site, it was determined that the precast structure under the entry to the existing car park had failed.
As such, Ducon was contracted to construct new concrete basement wall panels at the entrance, and a new drainage system to the south side of the Dandenong Market Car Park including;
Ducon completed the works whilst maintaining the operation of the car park and the adjacent roads. The focus of construction methodology was to protect the existing structure and ensure safety of staff and the public while completing rectification works. Traffic management was employed to ensure minimal disruption to the local traffic. The project required 3M high shoring and was completed with nil incidents.
The project timeline was very tight and an engineering alternative was provided by Ducon to ensure the programme was met. Night works were also utilised in order to facilitate programme requirements. A key focus of the design was to have minimal environmental impact, and as such an environmental impact plan was paramount to protect connected stormwater and adjacent road reserve.
The project was completed on budget and to the satisfaction of the client.
As a result of this project, Ducon has been asked to complete additional works within the facility. The methodology proposed and implemented by Ducon has now also been used for other projects within the City of Greater Dandenong asset portfolio.
