The project was to be delivered as scoped by KPSG on behalf of La Trobe University. It involved the construction of a new pedestrian bridge in the wildlife sanctuary.
The bridge needed to be constructed of steel, with timber decking boards and balustrades. The bridge was to be constructed in an operating wildlife sanctuary.
There were a number of design / engineering challenges including the large live load and requirements, adjacent dam, high water table and flood plain overlay.
Ducon held regular meetings and had constant communication with the design teams, and client’s stakeholder. This was essential to the successful outcome of the project as it was affected by latent ground conditions and adverse weather. A key focus of the construction methodology was to minimise environmental disruption. As such, an environmental management plan was paramount to protect the indigenous flora and fauna, some of which are endangered.
The project was completed on programme and on budget, to the satisfaction of the client.
