The Moorabbin Surgical Theatres Upgrade Project encompassed a comprehensive refurbishment of Level 3 facilities, including operating theatres, set-up rooms, dirty utility areas, sterile zones, and essential services. The scope also included enhancements to reception areas, staff bases, and ward spaces, aiming to improve functionality and comfort for both staff and patients.
Key upgrades involved general building works, Fire Services (wet and dry systems), Mechanical Services (including BMS integration), Electrical Services (with switchboard upgrades), Nurse Call systems, and seismic restraints.
To address storage challenges, a new sterile storeroom was constructed on Level 2 to support operational needs. This included the build and full fit-out of an external sterile storage facility, designed to align seamlessly with Level 3 works.
A critical component of the project was upgrading temperature and humidity monitoring systems in sterile areas to ensure full integration with the Building Management System (BMS), meeting AS4187 standards.
Infection Control and Compliance
Ducon collaborated closely with relevant user groups and consultant teams to ensure infection control standards and Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AHFG) were met. This collaboration ensured all aspects of the project adhered to stringent healthcare regulations, enhancing both patient safety and facility efficiency.
Additional Considerations
Strict infection control protocols were maintained throughout all phases of construction. Specialized measures were implemented to minimize disruption to hospital operations and ensure the safety of patients and staff. These measures included effective project staging, noise management, and comprehensive communication with hospital stakeholders to maintain seamless operations across the facility.
