This project involved the restoration and repairs to the Parliament of Victoria steps; one of Melbourne’s major public gathering spaces.
This ‘once in a century’ project was highly complex from an operational perspective, requiring the removal and re-waterproofing of the parliamentary steps at the Parliament of Victoria, in Spring Street Melbourne.
After 100+ years, the waterproofing system had failed and was allowing the ingress of water in to the area below, an intricate network of tunnels and spaces accommodating parliamentarians. Working within a fully operational environment, we carefully coordinated our works around the requirements of the parliamentarians, to minimise disruption.
The timeframe of the project was tight, requiring Ducon to act efficiently to minimise the amount of time when public access to the space was not possible. Further, it required us to ensure that parliamentary security was not compromised at any time by our access requirements.
Ducon has been working with the Parliament of Victoria on complex repairs to this landmark historic building for several years. it has involved collaborating with many of Melbourne’s leading heritage tradespeople, including stonemasons, joiners and steelworkers. It is an honour to work on such an amazing building.
