This project involved the Design and Construct of a new amenities building consisting of male and female lockers, male and female showers, a WC and a kitchen break out area.
Working alongside the platform in the station, as well as within the existing control room required high levels of planning, communication and project management techniques.
The project is a concrete block building with a glazed tile facade. It was built on a raft slab on screw piles, and was built on the site of a disused underpass. Our project constraint was the foundation, as the site had been heavily filled with concrete debris from previous projects, This required a three (3) meter deep excavation of the site before large screw piles could be used. Spanning of an existing unused underpass also had to be managed throughout the process. Ducon also constructed a new communications room to the upper concourse of an existing station, which houses the relocated communication racks.
The images above and to the right depict the work undertaken in the relocation of an existing signals room to an existing locker room including structural penetrations, floor finishes, kitchenette, plastering, painting, tiling, mechanical and electrical works.
Although it was difficult to complete the foundations, and access to the building was challenging, the project was delivered on time and to all stakeholders’ expectations. These included Metro Trains Melbourne, Public Transport Victoria (PTV), and the Train Drivers Union. Success in this particular project has led to many subsequent projects.
