The Challenge

While undertaking the works at a fully operational Northern Hospital, Ducon had to ensure minimal disruption to the adjacent live environment. This included key considerations such as noise, infection control and ongoing operational requirements.

The Solution

Strategic Collaboration and Planning To tackle this complex project, Ducon brought together the client, user group, and engineering teams to devise a well-planned site setup that would meet the specific requirements of a live hospital environment. Tailored Construction Approach
  • Custom Site Setup Plan: We worked closely with all stakeholders to create a site setup plan that was both practical and minimally invasive, ensuring patient care remained unaffected.
  • Off-Hours Hoarding Installation: To align with hospital protocols and surgery schedules, we implemented out-of-hours hoarding installation.
  • Pre-Approved Hoarding Systems: This involved the use of clean, code-marked hoarding systems that had been pre-approved by infection control and building surveyors. Ducon specifically selected this system to meet the hospital’s strict hygiene and safety standards.
Efficient Execution and Ongoing Management
  • Scheduled Deliveries: Where possible, delivery of materials and equipment were scheduled outside of active hours or in coordination with hospital stakeholders, reducing disruption to hospital operations.
  • Controlled Access: We installed tacky mats and designated clean-down areas at all site entrances and exits to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination.
  • Waste Management: Waste was managed with sealed bins to ensure safe and efficient removal from the site.
  • Regular Cleaning: Cleaning schedules were established to maintain a hygienic work environment.
  • Soft Walls for Minor Works: For smaller, adjacent areas, we used pre-approved soft or zip walls to minimize impact and maintain separation from critical hospital operations.
  • Proactive Communication: Regular updates, including two-week lookaheads, were provided to keep all stakeholders informed about upcoming activities and project progress.
