Fire Rescue Victoria - Brunswick Station

Ducon delivered the refurbishment within a live emergency services environment operating 24 hours a day. The works were carefully planned and staged to maintain safe access, operational building services and uninterrupted emergency response capability throughout construction.

The project scope included:

• Selective demolition of the existing accommodation areas, including removal of internal masonry walls
• Stair and landing modifications, new structural framing and timber stair construction
• Installation of new partitions, doors, ceilings, insulation, floor finishes, painting, joinery, signage and architectural finishes
• Relocation of existing air conditioning systems and installation of new split systems integrated with the existing Building Management System
• Electrical, lighting, power, data, communications and emergency lighting upgrades
• Alterations to the existing fire sprinkler system and associated fire protection services

During construction, Fire Rescue Victoria issued revised architectural and structural designs that significantly changed the approved scope of works. These changes introduced additional demolition, structural steel, plastering, flooring, carpentry and painting works, impacting critical path activities including set out, demolition, propping and structural steel procurement.

Ducon responded by reviewing the revised documentation, resequencing the programme and progressing works in unaffected areas while updated design information was finalised. This helped minimise downtime, maintain productivity and reduce disruption to station personnel.

The Outcome

The completed project delivered modern, compliant and more functional accommodation facilities for Fire Rescue Victoria’s Brunswick Fire Station.

The upgraded bedrooms, locker room, circulation areas and lounge have improved privacy, comfort and amenity for firefighters, while supporting the operational needs of a 24/7 emergency services environment.

Through proactive programme management, collaborative design coordination and careful live-site staging, Ducon delivered the refurbishment while maintaining uninterrupted emergency response operations throughout construction.
