Working within an active police station meant there was little room for disruption. Construction areas were securely separated from operational parts of the building, with controlled access, dust and vibration measures in place throughout the project.

Ducon worked closely with Victoria Police and the project consultants to plan works around the needs of the station. Service shutdowns and other disruptive activities were coordinated in advance and, where necessary, carried out outside normal operating hours.

As is often the case with refurbishment projects, a number of existing conditions only became apparent once works were underway. These included framing clashes, electrical requirements and issues within the existing mechanical system. Rather than allowing these to hold up the program, the team worked through each issue with the relevant consultants and trades and incorporated the required changes into the works.

Mechanical testing also identified existing airflow and ductwork issues in parts of the station. Additional rectification and balancing works were completed before handover to improve the performance of the system.

During the project, Victoria Police also identified an opportunity to improve privacy within the Watch House. Ducon constructed an additional wall to prevent CCTV monitors being visible to unauthorised personnel.
