Built around the business.

At the Arts Centre that meant lifting orchestra pit capacity from 60 players to over 100 inside a working State Theatre, built to the day a locked opera season demanded it.

1
What mattered

A locked opera season needed the orchestra pit capacity lifted from 60 players to more than 100, inside a working State Theatre, with the new lift mechanism shipped from France months ahead of construction.

2
What we did

Existing auditorium structure was removed and replaced with a secondary pit and a removable seating rostra above it, with the specialist lift engineering coordinated and signed off long before any work started on site.

3
What it achieved

A reversible secondary pit that meets full orchestra capacity for major productions and returns to audience seating the rest of the year.
