Built around public service.
At Parliament House that meant a once-in-a-century steps restoration delivered around a sitting parliament, without compromising security or public access for longer than the work demanded.
More about governmentMore than a hundred years of failed waterproofing beneath the Parliament of Victoria steps had to be fully replaced, with the building never closing, parliamentary security never compromised, and public access lost for as little time as possible.
The program was coordinated around sitting parliamentarians, access and site arrangements were planned to hold security at all times, and delivery drew on many of Melbourne's leading heritage stonemasons, joiners and steelworkers.
A major civic gathering space was fully re-waterproofed and returned to the public, with parliamentary security and operations undisturbed throughout.
